City of Ramsey PHONE(612)427-1410
FAX (612) 427-5543
15153 NOWTH EN BOULEVARD N.W., RAMSEY, MINNESOTA 55303 TDD (612) 427-8591

I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

May 1, 1995

Denny Fredfickson, General Manager
Ace Solid Waste, linc.
3118 162 Lane NW
Anoka, MN 55304

Dear Mr. Fredric~kson,
This letter is to c6nfm'n our conversation of Friday, April 21. As you and I discussed, your
proposal to set c~tain monies aside ($5.00 per "new customer") towards purchase of equipment
. for Ramsey park~is an exciting idea. As you know, the proposal has received preliminary
approval by the P~ks & Recreation Commission. However, because the City Council is the
official policy-m ~dng body of Ramsey, the Council will need to approve the proposal before it can
be implemented, iThe appropriate next forum for discussing this proposal is probably the Finance
Committee, which is a committee of the whole council, reviewing funding proposals for all kinds
of City purchase~. If you wish, you do not have to attend that meeting; staff can present the
proposal ba~ed o,~ information you have provided so far. Finance Officer Jessie Hart suggests the
May 25, 1995 Finance Committee meeting would be the appropriate time for this proposal to be
reviewed by the Council.

As far as the structure of the program, we would like to suggest the following. For the time being,
Ace will keep track of new customers in order to get a sense of the volume of growth. Quarterly,
Ace will contact City of Ramsey staff with an anticipated donation amount, and purchases will be
arranged throug discussion with the Parks & Recreation Commission. The City would provide
Ace with a letter.,confirming the purchases for tax purposes, and any remaining funds could be
rolled over for the next period We would like to present this program structure to the Finmme
Committee. Plez.se let us know if you are amenable to this structure.

Regarding publi~: recognition of this program, sevei'al ideas have been discussed among city staff.
For example, m, rking equipment purchased through this program may be appropriate. This might
be accomplished!by branding the equipment, as the Parks Department does with its existing items.
The Parks Depa~t.~. ment's brand displays a simple "RAMSEY" icon. A second brand, displaying
your corporate 10go, could be made specifically for this program; this would cost in the
neighborhood of $60.

As you and I dis~:us'ged, a second public recognition idea is to celebrate the accomplishments of the
program annuall~ with a "giant check." The check would be a large cardboard affair displaying the
total amount donated by your corporation during the Year. The check could be presented at a city
function, ideallyito kick off the next year of the program. City staff could arrange for such a
presentation to ~t4tke place at an appropriate occasion. Again, these ideas need to be approved by
the City Council
