Mr. Boos suggested having foot notes on the site location maps also as well as bulleted
~nformation.

Commissioner Cook proposed that it may be better if the maps are color coded. The clearer
we can represent what we are trying to do, the easier it will be to "sell" it. He commented
on the State's bike maps.

Commissioner Osborn felt it would be nice to have a map similar to that of the State's bike
map, showing the trail plan and mix/matching them so you could go one way and come
back another. He thought too, that color coding is helpful. He proposed adding details
such as picnic area, rest area, ponds, etc.

~. Boos reiterated these things cou'Id be included with footnotes.

Commissioner Cook stated that items could be briefly referenced and the comp plan would
be available for more information.

Commissioner Osborn voiced that people would want to know which are bike trails and
which are horse trails, for example.

Commissioner Cook commented that with the quick reference, we could say what's going
on with the trails and include a few rules about picnicking, etc.

/VD. Schroeder agreed that the City should consider these maps, but to maybe not print up a
iot of them at a time as they will have to be updated fairly often with all the changes, plus a
tot of the trails shown do not currently exist.

Mr. Boos encouraged the Commissioners to call in with, or drop off more, comments
regarding the plan.

~ollowing is a synopsis of what was discussed/agreed upon by the Commission: They
~iscussed having park maps printed with some of the following information: Note the park
-locations - use footnotes to denote types of trails, etc. shown on the map. Color coding
:was mentioned. It was suggested the maps could be updated every couple of years so they
~hould not necessarily be printed in mass quantities. It was further suggested that future
Plans be noted on the map with regard to parks and trails. Show the connections so a
Person going one way could come back another way for a different view. Picnic areas, rest
~areas and pond areas should be noted. Amenities of the parks should be listed somehow.
~Note the type of trails (equestrian, walking, biking, etc.) Also suggested was to include
~some rules about picnicking.

!COMMISSION INPUT
~1) Discuss Outdoor Meeting Schedule

!Chairperson Hetland felt that meeting in the parks is a good idea.

iCommissioner Osborn reported that Solstice Park looks fantastic.

-The Commission agreed they should revisit Solstice Park and decided that would be the
:meeting place for the May Park and Recreation Commission meeting.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
i
I

I

!Commissioner Henn inquired what is being planned for the park in Fox Knoll.

Park and Recreation Commission/April 13, 1995
Page 6 of 9

I
I
