I

I
I

I

I

I
I

CASE #

REPORT FROM FIRE BOARD
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:'

The Ramsey Fire Board met on Wednesday, July 12, 1995. The items discussed and the
action of the BOard were as follows: -

1)

Fire Chief Performance Evaluation: The evaluation process was discussed,
includir~g a plan for departmental involvement. It was suggested that the Assistant
Chief be intimately involved in advising the City Administrator on performance.
Also, tI~at it is a good idea to survey the entire department, but that specific
suggestions need follow-up by the City Administrator prior to inclusion in a written
review, i. The Fire Board voted to continue with the process.

2)

Fire Department Review of Developments: It was noted that the Fire Chief has
weekly discussions with the Building Official to stay up to date on projects. By the
next meeting, the Chief will have a checklist of criteria for review.

Recruitment: Development of employment advertising signs for placement around
the community was sm~gested, as well as sending a letter to local businesses
requesting assistance in locating interested parties. It was also suggested that an ad
should continue to run in the Ramsey Resident. The Board directed that the
advertising be researched and that specific bids should be brought back to a
subsequent meeting. Also directed was that letters be sent to employers.

4)

Update On Hazardous Materials Response: Chief Kapler gave an update on the
HAZMAT response. No action was necessary.

5)

Response Times: Response times were discussed and it was felt that eight minutes
might be an appropriate goal wherein that response could occur for 80% of the
community. Chief Kapler volunteered to get the ISO guidelines for response for
the next ineeting.

6)

Water/Ice Rescue Mission Statement: Chief Kapler disseminated a mission
statemer!t based on the April meeting discussion and the Board voted to approve
such statement.

7)

Other Business: The Fire Board was infor:.~ed that due to the rescue truck tank
leaking, the Fire Department will be proposing a $1,700 expense to reline the tank
which will be warranted for a 15-year period.

Council Action:

For informational purposes only - no action is required.

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

City Administrator

Fire Chief

CC: 07/25/96
/jmt
