I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!

Case #11: Report from Road and Bridge Committee
1) Statut Report on Sunwood Drive Project

City Engineer Jankowski reported that he anticipates bids the end of September for the
Sunwood Drive project. One issue we have had to deal with is a precise alignment for
Sunwood. ?e previously brought an alignment to City Council but the Kuraks have
expressed con~cerns about that one. We met with them and they asked that the alignment be
brought further north to abut the two wetlands; it seemed reasonable. Subsequent to our
meeting, Mr. [Kurak called about an alignment to parallel the roadway and go between the
two designate~d wetlands. Mr. Jankowski felt that would create too many tight curves and
the Road and~ Bridge Committee concurred. He stated he would like a _,decision on the
alignment fog:the Kurak property and to be able to field stake Mr. Deemer s property. He
asked that the~Council confirm the recommendation of the Road and Bridge Committee that
the final align~nent be the one referred to as the approved alignment dated August 8, 1995.
Councilmemb~er Peterson inquired if the property owners would be dedicating right-of-way
if the old road was used.

Mr. Schroeder replied that the right-of-way cost is relatively insignificant.

Councilmeml~er Peterson stated that in talking to the landowners, they suggested they
might be inte,i'ested in giving right-of-way to the City. He inquired what the speed would
be due to the ~urves.

Mr. Jankowslq replied that the very tight curves would be 30 m.p.h.

Councilmemb. er Peterson inquired if from an engineering standpoint, is coming from a stop
much better ~lhan a 30 m.p.h, curve in the middle. Traffic naturally would be slowing
down - it woa."ld basically be a 35 m.p.h, road.

Mr. Jankowsld answered that it would be posted 35 m.p.h, but would be designed for
more.

Councilmeml~er Zimmerman commented that it would be difficult to maneuver emergency
vehicles on th~ese tight curves.

Councilmember Peterson commented that he has a number of residents in his
neighborhood who are very concerned about the speed on 153rd. The way it's designed, it
becomes a ra~e track.

CouncilmemlSer Zimmern~an felt that collector streets should be kept somewhat straight.
He stated thai the Road and Bridge Committee recommended this alignment that is to the
north and abuis the two wetlands and is labeled August 8 approved alignment.

Motion by Cquncilmember Zimmerman and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to select
the road aligpment through the Kurak's property labeled "August 8, 1995 approved
alignment".

Motion carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Beah( a and
Beyer. Voting No: Councilmen~ber Peterson.

2) Trunk Highway #47 Access/Corridor Study

City Council/August 8, 1995
