1998 <br /> Central Pal'k: Mr. Boos indicated that the southwest comer could have tennis courts, <br /> basketball ~nd/or expanded parking. <br />Discussion ensu~ resulting in Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos suggesting a committee be <br />established to deciile the relevancy of park plans. He suggested this be a winter project. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder feels that issues such as packaging of land and funding sources other than what we <br />have needs to be ~ained and should be addressed in the narrative. He listed the major parks in <br />Ramsey as Itascal Alpine, Central and River's Bend. Itasca has no money allocated in the CIP, <br />and should be addi:essed in narrative as increased priority in furore years. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder s~d that the import to the community as a whole should be stated in the narrative <br />regarding trail funi:ling and boulevard tree funding. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johns agreed that boulevard tree planting would be a plus to the community as a <br />whole. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder indicated that a berm 800 feet long will be planted with trees this fall, and the City <br />will see what happens as far as resident reaction. <br /> <br />1999 <br /> Woodlandi Green: Expansion may include a path connecting to Bear Park. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Asfahl and seconded by Commissioner Johns to close the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Hefland, Commissioners Asfahl, Johns and Skinner. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Cook and Osbom. <br /> <br />The Park and Recreation Commission public hearing adjourned at 8:46 p.m. <br /> <br />COMMISSION INPUT <br /> <br />Chairperson Hetl~d was curious about tree cost. Mr. Boos indicated that, as an example, there <br />are between $7000-8000 worth of trees at Emerald Pond Park. He said costs generally mn <br />between $150-200 for each tree and $75 to move a tree. <br /> <br />Chairperson Hetiand inquired why some of the monies allocated for projects in the CIP (he <br />suggested 5-10%1 couldn't be used to purchase trees/shrubs. <br /> <br />Commissioner Johns voiced that maintenance issues are sometimes beautification issues instead. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos said that many cities have line items for trees, but Ramsey no longer does. He <br />expressed a desir~ to have staff recommend that the Finance Committee consider reinstating a line <br />item specifically for trees. <br /> <br />Commissioner Skinner said that trees and shrubs might be helpful with people who feel park <br />development is s~aring wildlife away. <br /> <br />Commissioner ASfahl questioned that if the Lawful Gambling Fund doesn't pan out, could the <br />monies be applieit toward trees.
