I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CASE #

PROPERTY ACQUISITION
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

The City of R~tmsey is currently negotiating on various parcels of property necessary for
roadway or utility purposes. While we do not have signed purchase agreements on any of
these, we havq placed this item on the agenda in case this is able to be accomplished prior
to the meeting~ The parcels are as follows:
AlCx)n P~rc¢l

In order to complete the Sunwood Drive project within the AEC development, we need to
acquire 31,920 square feet from A1 Phillips of Altron. The attached exhibit shows the
original Sun'~ood alignment and the new location which has been moved north at the
request of Mr4 Phillips. The new .ahgnment is as approved within the AEC plat. This
alignment lea~es a remnant parcel of 55,939 square feet, of which 19,404 is wetland. Mr.
Phillips has requested that both the right-of-way and the remnant be purchased.

Bury & Carlso~n

For the AEC isewer line, we need to acquire property from Ed and Lora Hamilton,
Commercial ~sphalt, Royal/AMCOR Concrete and Bury & Carlson. Of these, we have a
purchase agreement with the Hamiltons. We also will be using AEC property and other
parcels that thei City already controls.

Relative to th~ Bury parcel, we are proposing to acquire a total of 2.89 acres (125,880
square feet). The attached exhibit shows that the sewer alignment has been moved north,
away from th,~ Burlington Northern. It has been moved in order to align the future
McKinley Street next to an existing pond and as far away as possible from the Jaspar Street
Public Works garage. This will result in a small increase in the public works land area.

Kurak Parcels

A. Elementary, School Sewer Project: As Council is aware, we have been negotiating for
the right to enter this property for quite some time. The eventual ownership of land will
include 1.8 ac3es of temporary and .81 acres of permanent utility easement. The project
a!3o is adjacen( to a .71 acre parcel which is high ground without access.

B. Sunwood Drive: The Council has previously approved an alignment for Sunwood
Drive. As noted at the last Council meenng, the owners have requested that the ex~snng
private drive, known as Sunfish Lake Drive, be used to the extent possible. The road
alignment has "been estimated at approximately 3.3 acres. If the alignment is moved as
requested, there are also two minor remnant parcels created. We have also requested that
any rights to S~nfish Lake Drive be deeded to the City. Some of these rights apparently
encumber the nlorthem alignment of Sunwood Drive.

Council Action:

Based on discussion and any purchase offers brought to the table.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

FC: 09/26/95

/jmt ~

Copies also
City Engineer

distributed to:

159
