I
!
I
I
I
I
i
I

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

October 18, 1995

TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Council
Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator
Jessie Hart, Finance Officer
Glyn Huff, Building Official
Steve Jankowsld, City Engineer
Steve Lutmer, Building Inspector
Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Sylvia Frolik, Zoning Administrator
Cory Tauer, Intern
Heidi Welsh, Intern ./~/~
/ /t/..~
Jim Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator.//C/

Building Permit Activity for September, 1995

Enclosed for your review and use are the month-end reports for building permit activity up to the
end of Septembar, 1995. The reports show that 20 new home permits were issued during
September, with 3 of those occurring in the rural area. This brings the total to 175 single-family
homes being constructed in 1995. C'urrenfly, the City has received 20 new home permits for
October. The projection for the entire month of October was 15. The City, if those rates continue,
should approach last year's total number of 248 new homes being constructed.

Also included in,this month's reports are updated valuation reports for July and August. The
reports that wereioriginally distributed contain a valuation error and should be replaced by the
attached copies. The valuation report also shows that the total valuation of building permits issued
has exceeded thc valuation for 1994. This greater valuation has occurred even with the City
issuing 30 fewer new home permits. The slack of a lower number of single-family homes is an
increase in the cohamercial and public building activity. So far, the City has seen the construction
of over 65,384 square feet of space. This number should continue to increase with the pending
construction of the Anoka Electric Cooperative facility (183,000 square feet) and Command
Corporation (53,000). These two additional buildings will bring the commercial square footage to
over 301,000 squ~e feet; this amount is the largest ever in a single year in the City of Ramsey.
With the acquisition of the commercial/industrial property east of Sunfish Lake Boulevard, it is
anticipated that thts trend will continue.

Should you have any questions concerning this report, or suggestions of additional information
which should be i4ncluded, please see me.

q
