Ramsey City CotJncil
November 9, 1995
Page Three
L/-

consider submitting an application the next time a vacancy occurred as we felt each of
them has streng{hs that would be beneficial to the Park and Recreation Commission.

It is our hope that this explanation sheds light on the situation. We did not and still do
not oppose a rel3resentative from RYAA being on our Commission if they are the most
qualified and th~, best fit for our Commission. Further, we believe this determination
can only be mad.Je upon careful consideration of each candidate and with the input of
the Commission Imembers. It was never our intent to shun RYAA or exclude them from
contributing sugCestions to the Park and Recreation Commission. On the contrary, we
welcome RYAA Involvement and hope to see them participate at more of our open
monthly meeting~. We value RYAA's demonstrated commitment to youth sports and
will continue to actively encourage RYAA to provide input regarding RYAA's needs and
ideas. We do n(~t want anything to jeopardize our ability to provide excellent Park and
Recreation oppoi'tunities for the City, and RYAA is a vital component to that success.

At this time, we ~/ould like to formally request that the following items be added to the
November 14, 1995, City Council Meeting Agenda:

A full discussion of why the City Council questioned the nomination process,
which has always been considered effective in the past.
r

The unfodnded insinuation of gender bias.

The basisifor questioning the Park and Recreation Commission's integrity.

Whether anyone from City Council represented to RYAA that a Park and
Recreation Commission seat would be designated for them.

5.
