I I I I I CASE # ~ LAND ACQUISITION FOR SUNWOOD DRIVE By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer Background:I The alignment pf Sunwood Drive through the Ben Deemer property is illustrated on the attached sketch~ Preliminary conversations with Mr. Deemer have raised several issues which we woulfl like to receive input from the Couneilmembers. The City needs to obtain Parcel E for the right-of-way of Sunwood Drive. Acquisition of Parcel E will s~;ver Parcel F from the buildable portion of Mr. Deemer's property. Less than an acre of this parcel toward its eastern boundary would be necessary for a drainage easement to es' ablish a sedimentation pond. Is there a public interest in acquiring the remainder of PI reel F. Mr. Deemer does not wish to sell Pared F in that he prefers not to have public ac~ss to the lake. However, it should be expected that the public will attempt access anyway ~lue to Sunwood Drive being directly adjacent. It should also be expected that severance Of this parcel will result in an acquisition cost. I Mr. Deemer al,~. owns property on the west side of Sunfish Lake Boulevard which I have labeled Parcel ,.~. Sunwood Drive would be extended a distance of 58 feet through this parcel and nee4s to be acquired for right-of-way. Mr. Deemer wishes to sell the remaining piece of Parcel !3 to the City. Does the City wish to acquire this remaining piece. In any case, we}should pursue acqmsmon of thzs property through ermnent domain. Doing so will address ~my concerns about favoritism given Mr. Deemer's position on the Planning Commission. l, lr. Deemer has stated his concurrence with this position.
