CASE #1

GOALS AND PROJECTS FOR 1995
By: James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

In the beginning of 1994, the Economic Development Commission set the following goals for the
year. Those goals were:

1)

Reviewing the possibility of combining some of the annual events, such as the Community
Picnic andthe Ramsey Business Expo.

2)

Development of a business visitation program that will allow for the visiting of local
businesses to discover their needs and make contacts for future use in EDC events.

3) Development and planning for additional monument entrance signs.

4)

Completion of normal EDC activities, such as the Business Appreciation and Game Fair
booths.

5)

Meeting with Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce as to the possibility of setting up an area
of the Chamber of Commerce to serve the City of Ramsey.

The EDC has met with some success on the goals that it had set in 1994. These successes include
combining the 1995 Business Expo with the Lion's Community Picnic. This should result in a
decrease in the total cost of each event, and allow for greater participation, as the Lion's Picnic
generally attracts 5,000 - 6,000 attendees.

The City started a limited visitation program with local businesses. This resulted in the City
finding out that three businesses are interested in constructing new or larger facilities. This
program will have to be expanded in the future to encourage the development of the
commercial/industrial property owned by the City.

The Anoka-Henn~-pin Vocational College in Anoka has been contacted regarding locating a sign on
the western edge of their property along Highway gl0. They have appeared to be less than totally
interested in this i~dea. The City is currently reviewing the possibility of locating an entrance sign
closer to Sunfish Lake Boulevard N.W. As the City has received interest in the development of the
property in this area, locating a sign in that area becomes a greater reality. The owners of the
property on the northwest corner of County Road gl 16 and Highway #47 will be deciding this
week, January 2 --6, 1995, as to the possibility of using a portion of this site for a monument sign.
The City has not only budgeted funds for additional monument signs, but has received the
remaining funds :from the dissolution of the Ramsey Economic Development Company for
monument sign development.

The EDC also successfully completed its annual events, including the largest turnout ever for a
Business Appreciation Day, at The Links at Northfork.

During 1995, the Commission should look at the development Of specific goals that will allow it to
continue with its ..directive of providing timely information to the City Council, helping local
businesses grow, and continuing positive development in the City.
