CASE #2 1995 BUSINESS EXPO By:~ James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator Background: The City has reqeived bids from the booth and tent rental companies. Based upon their understanding of 0~ur needs, they have suggested the following type of set-up: A 60' x 100' tent with four rows of booths, the outside row would have 12 booths, the interior rows Would have 11 booths on each side. This would give the City a total of 46 booths for the event. Total cost of the tent, including side panels that could be lowered or raised as needed, would be $2,512. The booth rental would be $41 per booth. This would bring the cost of the rentals to $4,398. Using this total number, the cost for the booth~, would be $95.61. In the past, we have charged $75.00 for booth rental which would result in a gubsidy of $20.61 per booth for a total of $948.06. Based upon this projection, we may want to increase the price of the booths to $85. and subsidize the booths at a rate of $10.61 per booth.' The event should be able to handle this amount of subsidy as the school rental, janitorial staff, and advertising costs generally run about $823.21 each year. The flyers are ready to be mailed with the determination of the price at this evening's meeting. Attached for your-review is a copy of the proposed flyer along with the intended layout of the booth area. At the April 11, 1995 City Council meeting, a representative of the Commission will need to present the annual request to the City Council for their funding of $2,000 for this event. Recommendation: Based upon discussion, the Commission should set the cost of booths and elect someone to appear before the City Council to request funding. Commission Action: Motion to set the cost of the booth for the 1995 Business Expo at $ Motion to nominate to appear before City Council at the April 11, 1995 meeting to request funding for the Business Expo in the amount of $2,000.
