CASE #1

BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY
By: James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

The City has received all of the bids for the 1995 Business Appreciation Day. The bids were as
follows:

Rum River Hills Golf Course
The Linkslat Northfork

$44.00 per golfer
$50.00 per golfer

As we had discussed at our last meeting, if Rum River Hills bid was lower than the Links' bid,
they would host ~e event. Based upon this discussion, I have sent the attached letters confirming
our event at the Ram River Hills Golf Course on August 23, 1995. The tentative schedule for the
event would be as!follows:

12:00 - 1:00
1:00 - 5:30
6:00 - 7:00,

Registration
Tournament
Meal and Door Prizes

By compressing the event to one-half day, we should have a larger turn-out, as participants would
be able to work the first part of the day.

This year's meal will be a choice of either a top sirloin steak or chicken breast dinner. The dinner
will include tossed salad, baked potato and dinner rolls. People wishing to purchase the dinner
only will be charged $15.00, while persons golfing and having dinner will be charged $50.00 per
person.

At the last Commission meeting, we had also discussed the purchase of some type of promotional
item to be distribu~d to the participants. Last year hats were distributed. I would recommend the
purchase of the ball and tee package, indicated as item "C" on the attachment. These could be
purchased for a cost of between $2.12 to $2.35 each. This would include the imprinting of the
City logo on each of the balls.

I have also attached a draft brochure for mailing to the local businesses and those that have been
involved in the event. The brochure has a somewhat different look from previous years in that
there is not the letter from the Mayor encouraging participation in the event.

We had also discussed this year's inductee into the Hall of Fame, with the selection being tabled
until we had receiOed bids from all of the possible courses. The decision was tabled due to the
possible election of Wes Bulen to the Hall of Fame. Now that the event has been scheduled, we
should decide on an inductee and order the required plaques.
