CASE #1

1995 RAMSEY BUSINESS APPRECIATION DAY
By: Sam McGhee, Event Chairperson and
James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

The flyers for the August 23, 1995 Business Appreciation Day were mailed the week of June 26,
1995, to all of the businesses on the attached list. Included with your agenda packets are additional
flyers for distribution to any personal contacts that may be interested in this year's event.

We have already received sponsorship for the longest drive for both men and women and longest
putt for both men and women from Heidi and Gerald Bauer. Chairperson Wagner has suggested
the purchase of one,~oversize driver, umbrellas and other miscellaneous items to be donated by the
EDC members as door prizes. We will need to acquire door prizes from the local businesses
whether or not they are participating in the event. We should develop a systematic approach to
contacting the local businesses. This approach may be accomplished by assigning specified
geographic areas tddifferent members, i.e., Allan Stafki could take care of the Rum River Plaza,
Carolyn Nelson ~ the Elk River area, and Ken Wagner - the Highway #10 corridor. This would
allow for all of the businesses to be contacted even if they are new and do not appear on any of the
mailing lists. When visiting fairly new businesses, we should acquire a contact name and mailing
address to insure that they are notified of future events.

The plaques for the Hall of Fame inductee has been ordered and should arrive prior to the event.

Commission Action:

Based upon discussion. The EDC members will need to start making contact with local businesses
for participation and donations of door prizes.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Economic Development Coordinator

EDC:07/13/95
