CASE #1

RAMSEY BUSINESS NEWSLETTER ,-'
By: James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

As discussed at the September meeting of the EDC, the possibility should be reviewed of
producing a newsletter for the businesses in the City of Ramsey. A newsletter like this would
provide both the EDC and City to get timely and important information to the local businesses.
This newsletter would be similar to the Ramsey Resident in that no advertising would be sold and
the editorial control would be provided by the City.

Based upon the current business mailing list, the newsletter would cost the City $45.69 in postage
per marling. The cost of printing would depend upon the design of the newsletter. Included in the
meeting packet, are various types of newsletters and how they are designed. At this time, the EDC
may want to consider using a single sheet of paper, tri-folded. This would allow for the lowest
printing cost as it could be created and printed completely in-house.

I have also included some articles that could be used in the fa:st edition. These articles should give
the businesses an idea of what the newsletter will be about and how they may become involved in
providing input into future editions. This input may include programs that may be available, short
notes about new businesses, or other things that may assist businesses in their development. At
this time, we will also need to decide how often the newsletter will be produced, and if that
schedule should be adjusted throughout the year.

After the EDC has decided on the layout of the newsletter, mailing frequency, and content, the idea
will need to be forwarded to the City Council for their input and approval. At that time, the EDC
should make the f'mal plans for distribution of the newsletter.

Commission Action:

Motion to submit the proposed business newsletter to the City Council for input and approval.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Economic Development Coordinator
Finance Officer

EDC: 10/2/95
