CASE #3

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION GOALS FOR 1996
By: james D. Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

As you are aware, the November meeting of the EDC was a joint meeting with the City Council.
The Council provi~ied input to the Commission as to the type of projects the EDC should undertake
during 1996. SoMe of these suggested projects include:

· Continued..development of the Ramsey Business Newsletter and its distribution.
· Review the distribution of Commercial/Industrial property and develop a proposed ratio
compared !to the residential property. Review the effects of the recently passed charter
amendmerit on the expansion of the Metropolitan Urban Services Area (MUSA) line in the
City. Thi~ would be used in the continued development and review of the comprehensive
land use plan.
· The Council also suggested the EDC develop a breakfast/lunch program for the existing
businessesiand the prospects for the Industrial Park and the AEC Energy Park. This could
be used toibring in new business prospects and use our successes such as Detail Tool and
Engineerir!g, Carbon Product Technology, Wendell's, Command and AEC to encourage
businesseslto locate in the City. In addition, this could be used to develop closer ties to the
existing business that may result in the leads to new businesses and the expansion of the
existing businesses.
· The City 12ouncil also discussed the idea of reviewing the Highway #10 corridor as to the
type of d~'elopment and redevelopment that should happen along the Highway. This
review would include the location of frontage roads and future transportation corridors.
The EDC Would also review the look of the corridor and other areas in the City to develop
the possibility of a uniform commercial area look. This may be similar to the uniform look
that the City of Becker has developed along their Highway #10 corridor.
· The CounCil was also concerned about the development of uniform signs in the industrial
park areasl These signs would be both in the form of business monument signs identifying
the.busine,ss and park entrance signs that would list the businesses located in the park at a
lilaln entrailce.

Using these ideas,~the EDC should develop a plan of action to complete some or all of these goals
during 1996. The~first step would be to rank the goals in order of importance. The Commission
then should decid6 on a course of action for the completion of the goals and the normal activities
that the EDC is in~tolved in each year (Business Appreciation Day, Business EXPO).

Commission Action:

Motion to develop a plan of action for 1996, fulfilling the goals that it has chosen as being most
important to the Oty of Ramsey.

Reviewed by :

Economic Development Coordinator
City Administrator

EDC: 12/07/95

\5
