Case #2: Fire Department Review of Developments <br /> <br />City Administrator Schroeder went over the development review process and the Fire Department <br />involvement in it. The Chief noted that he had weekly discussions with Building Official Huff to <br />stay up to date or~ projects. He suggested the Fire Department should prepare a checklist of criteria <br />for the Fire DepSrtment reviews. It was suggested that the preplan team review the criteria and <br />perhaps site plans should be assigned to a committee. By the next meeting of the Fire Board, <br />Chief Kapler off, ed to developed a checklist. <br /> <br />Case #3: Recruitment <br /> <br />Chief Kapler stal/ed that the department is continuing to attempt to reach a full complement of 30 <br />staff. He suggested developing employment advertising signs for placement around the <br />community. He ~lso suggested sending a letter to local businesses requesting assistance in locating <br />interested parties.~ Further, that an ad should continue to mn in the Ramsey Resident. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Hardin and seconded by Boardmember Weiss to research the advertising and <br />return to the Fire Board with specific bids; also to send out a letter to employers. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Chairperson Pearson, Boardmembers McLaughlin <br />and Weiss. Voting No: None. Absent: Councilmember Beyer and Boardmember Williams. <br /> <br />Case #4: Ul~date on Hazardous Materials Response <br /> <br />Chief Kapler reported that Anoka County is an appointee for the Specialized Containment Action <br />Team (SCAT). 'I~he area of coverage includes the Counties of Anoka, Isanti, Chisago, Kanabec, <br />and parts of Sherburne and Hennepin. Additional training required for Ramsey fire fighters is <br />approximately 20 hours. The training and all SCAT materials other than standard response <br />equipment is prov;ided and paid for by the State. Anoka County has two years to put the SCAT <br />team in place. Four fire fighters will be provided by Ramsey. Several existing staff have <br />volunteered. Reqfiired response time is 30 minutes to the staging area which will likely be Fridley. <br /> <br />Case #5: Response Times <br /> <br />Chief Kapler discussed the issue with the past Andover Fire Chief Dale Maschuga. Andover's <br />goal is for a seven minute response. Chief Kapler suggested that eight minutes might be an <br />appropriate goal Wherein that response could occur for 80% of the community. He went over the <br />maps showing existing response time estimates and also home locations of existing staff. It was <br />suggested that we ishould check response goals for additional departments. It was also noted that <br />the home location,s of the staff will change over time. Chief Kapler volunteered to get the ISO <br />guidelines for response for the next meeting. <br /> <br />Case #6: Water/Ice Rescue Mission Statement <br /> <br />Chief Kapler handed out a proposed mission statement based on the April meeting discussion on <br />the subject. He stated that the department has all necessary equipment currently on hand to provide <br />rescue pursuant to ~he proposed statement. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Hardin and seconded by Boardmember McLaughlin to approve the mission <br />statement. <br /> <br />Motion carded. VOting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Chairperson Pearson, Boardmembers McLaughlin <br />and Weiss. VotingNo: None.
