ITASCA PARK SURVEY RESPONSES

7/~ 1/94

7/12../94

7/12/94

7/19/94

7/2O/94

7/20/94

7/26/94

7/26/94

8/2/94

Robert Utah called and left message that Ramsey could use a beach or pool; perhaps
at itasca Park. Subsequent attempts to contact him by phone were not successful.

J,_~,'_.e Spence called to express concern over the proposed development Itasca Park.
H, lives across the cul-de-sac from the proposed parking lot and ballfield complex.
He:is worried about the affect of traffic on the neighborhood. He stated that there
are. bald eagles at Lake Itasca which might be adversely affected by development.
He'would not mind development of a trail or other nature viewing facilities.
Ho&vever, he is opposed to any high-impact uses such as ballfields.

Anonymous resident suggesting volleyball courts and tennis courts instead of
bMlfields. Mentioned that there are very few facilities for either sport within the
ci~.

Julie Gunderson ca.lled to voice complete opposition to the project. She is
concerned that loons Mil be scared away from the lake. She feels that Central Park
is o!ose enough to the neighborhood and provides adequate ballfields, etc. She is
completely opposed to a parking lot. She wishes the area would be left just as it
cUrrently is.

Judy Cheslock called to express concern over the proposed Itasca Park project.
Sba wonders why we are spending time and money on new parks when the already
exis~ting parks are not properly managed. She noted the disrepair of the ballfield at
Central Park in particular.

Resident concerned with proposed use of trail. Open to park development as long
as s~nowmobiles and horses are not allowed on the trails which abut her property.

"Brian" resident of Itasca Recreation District called to suggest tennis courts for
Itasca Park.

Debbie Can, resident of Okapi Su'eet was concerned about the proposed trail head
facility near her house at the north end of the proposed Itasca Park. Although she
supported the park, she hopes the parking lot facility will not significantly increase
traffic and noise in the neighborhood.

Teresa H~n (Park Commissioner) and Nancy Webster asked to meet me to discuss
the proposed Itasca Park. The recommendations I received from them are as
follows:
1. Tennis courts are much preferred to a softball field. A soccer
field would also be nice..
2. The proposed theme of Red River Ox Cart Route with trails,
prairie restoration, and rustic type shelters is greatly supported.
3. It was suggested that play equipment might be scheduled for a
second or third phase instead of the first.
