CASE #4 <br /> <br />CONSIDER FOX PARK DRAFT DEVELOPMENT PLAN <br />By Community Development Intern Beth Malaby <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />$65,500 has been ;budgeted within the 1995 C.I.P. for the development of Fox Park. A survey of <br />neighborhood resi~lents last summer suggested some revisions to the development plan and budget <br />that were originall~ proposed for the site. A revised draft plan and budget have been generated by <br />staff, for discussiOn and review by the Commission. <br /> <br />Observations: <br /> <br />The survey of neighborhood residents indicated consensus on two priorities for park development: <br />(a) playground eqBipment, and (b) prairie restoration. There was also some consensus among <br />opponents of the park in fearing that the natural environment would be degraded. Thus, staff <br />identified play eq~aipment and environmental restoration/preservation as two key features for <br />consideration. Tlte revised draft plan calls for two separate play areas for toddlers and older <br />children, as well a~ extensive restoration of the natural prairie, new wildlife habitat (bluebird boxes <br />and duck boxes),[ boardwalk through one portion of the wetlands and educational signage <br />describing the ecological communities within the Park. <br /> <br />Sports facilities, such as basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, were strongly favored by some <br />residents and stro/)gly opposed by others. The draft plan suggests development of one tennis <br />court, as this facili~ is likely to be the least controversial of the sports facilities, and because the <br />city of Ramsey is ~erceived to be lacking in tennis courts Picnic shelters were not a favored item <br /> ~ . <br />among survey respondents and have been w~thdrawn from the proposal. <br /> <br />Residents of FoxiRidge continue to request park development.
