PON~VALE/RAMSEY MEADOWS TRAIL LINK ACQUISITION
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Case #2

Background:

At the time ofpltltting the Ramsey Meadows and Sunny Pond Subdivisions, the existing Pondvale
Estates Addition ~vas also expected to receive municipal utilities.

To facilitate the dptension of utilities to Pondvale, a 20-foot strip was platted at the western edge of
Ramsey MeadoWs 2nd Addition. The next step was to acquire a similar segment to the south.
This narrow condor was planned to connect to 149th Lane and provide for sewer and water as
well as a pedestri~ path.

Before this oecd, however, the utilities were connected to 150th Lane via the Fluorine Street
cul-de-sac to the ~outheast. Path corridor acquisition did not procede.

Observation:

Recently, the hon~eowners directly south of the 20-foot link contacted the City to express interest
in seeing the con~ection go forward. Doug and Karla Jones recognize the importance of providing
this neighborhood connection by witnessing the pedestrian traffic through the various yards.

The Jones' e,xpec~, some compensation for the acquisition. As the Commission will recall, this
particular linkagel was again identified as desirable when the Commission examined recreation
destinations and ri neighborhood pedestrian routes when reviewing the proposed Brandseth
Addition.

The absolute mintmum corridor width for this purpose would be 20 feet with additional width at
the north propert3~ line to meet the existing west corridor line at the lot boundary. The minimum
square footage w~uld be 4,468.5 feet.

The estimated coat of acquisition of the described parcel and development of two segments is
between $4,000 a~hd $5,000. Minor landscaping and signage would be an additional $1,000.

Attached for Your Information:

Park District Map
· Vicinity Map
· Existing & Pr6posed Trail Map

Staff Recommefldation:

Staff recommen~ pursuing this matter using expected park dedication from the Brandseth
Addition as the fu,nding source.

Commission ACtion:

Motion to recomnlend Staff prepare a proposal for City Council consideration at a not to exceed
cost of $6,000, usi~ag the Brandseth Addition park dedication as funding.

Reviewed By:

Copies distributed to:

City Administrator
City Engineer ~
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Finance Officer
Economic Development Coordinator

P&R: 11-9-95
/kas
