The Rele of the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission

The Ramsey'.Park and Recreation Commission's role is to advise and
recommend IJ)roposals to the City Council for ratification and implementation.

The Park and Recreation Commission plays a significant role in preserving and
establishing ~ecreational systems, as well as insuring that space for these
programs is adequate to meet the public need.

An important ~function of the Commission is to be aware of community interests
and needs. ~hrough continual evaluation of the community, recreational land is
coordinated, expanded and improved. This is accomplished through open
meetings, surCveys, etc. all of which aid in the Commission's ability to develop the
best course df action to meet those interests and needs.

For effective long range community planning, good communication between the
Commission ~nd all other City agencies (i.e. Planning Commission and City
Council) is vittel.

Specific responsibilities of the Commission are to:

· Establish ~loals and objectives.
· Coordinate interdepartmental review of objectives and proposals.

· Make specific recommendations to implement objectives and assign
administrative responsiblity.
r

· Coordinate Commission efforts with other City agencies.

· Select new members for service on the Park and Recreation Commission.

Selectien criteria will consider whether candidates are representatives of
current r:community interests in parks and recreation. Additionally,
CommiSsion members should include representatives from aS many
differe~ recreation districts as possible. A candidate's interest in the
commu~hity must outweigh private or employment interests regarding the
city's recreational system planning and needs.
