RAMSEY SIGN AMENDMENT

9.12 SIGNS

AREAS OF CONFUSION AND/OR CONCERN

9.12. SIGNS (Page 1)
Based on context, and especially 9.12.02 "Sign", Believe the
title "9.12 OUTDOOR SIGNS" would be more descriptive.

9.12.03 Subd. 13. (Page. 6) - In line 4, suggest fourth word read "evidence"
- Suggest sentence beginning line 5 "When any..." become
paragraph b. (new subject).
- Paragraph b. becomes c.

9,12,04 Subd, 6. (Page 8)
- Is portion of text missing?

9,12.09 Heading (Page 11)
- Suggest fourth word read "Warehouse"

9.12.12 Subd.1. Construction Specifications (Page 13)

Discussion

Counci!~s concern focused on the appearance'of Bigns (i.e., the
undesirable esthetics of hand painted signs). This Subd. speaks
only to construction~ installation, alteration. It does not
require that painting/lettering/facing be professionally done;
does not define "professional sign companies"; does not specify
what kind of business contractors must be licensed to do
business ....

As written, this Subd. would allow a kid with a can of spray
paint to paint a sign on a piece of plywood which was cut to size
by a "Contractor !icensed...(to waterproof basements) who could
then erect ~
z~. It would, however prohibit:
1. The Superbowl (and others) from periodically changing the
copy on their signs; or
2. Lakeview Development from to putting up and taking down
the signboards (from existing structure) as office tenants
change; etc.
The requirement to hire a contractor or "professional sign
company" (whatever that is) to change text, or even to hang an
attractive, professionally painted sign, clearly conflicts with
spirit of 9.12.01~ line 6, is unreasonable, and unenforceable.

RAMSEY SIGN AMENDHENT P. 1 OF 3
