~ CASE #
/~WARD BID FOR VETERINARIAN SERVICES AT THE
1994 ANNUAL SPRING PET CLINIC
By: Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator

Backgroufi, d:

The City of Bamsey advertised in the March issue of the Ramsey Resident to receive bids
for the oppolrtunity to serve as the exclusive veterinarian for the City of Ramsey at its 1994
spring pet clinic. The following bids were received:

AMVET - E
15670 NE 91
Elk River, 1~

At Home V¢

k River Animal Hospital
fda Street
N 55330

~erinary House. calls

7262 162nd Lane NW
Ramsey, MI~ 55303

Ramsey Anitnal Hospital
14027 St. F~ancis Blvd. N.W.
Ramsey, MI~ 55303

Shot Bid
Rabies (canine & feline) $3.00
DHLP-P (canine) $8.95
Pan RC-C-P (feline) $4.95

Rabies (canine & feline) $2.00
DHLP-P (canine) $8.00
Pan RC-C-P (feline) $5.00

Rabies (canine & feline) $3.00
DHLP-P (canine) $9.00
Pan RC-C-P (feline) $7.00

The followi~g are prices charged by the City for each of the shots for 1991, 1992 and
1993:

_Shot 1991 .. 1992 1993
Rabies (canine & feline) $2.75 $2.50 $3.00
DHLP-P (canine) $10.25 $10.00 $10.00
Pan RC-C-P (feline) $5.25 $5.75 $7.00

Recommenilation:

Staff recommends that Council award the bid to At Home Veterinary Housecalls, the
lowest biddY. Two of the three shots bid were lower than the others, plus it is a Ramsey
business. S~aff further recommends that the pet cIinic prices charged by the City be
increased slightly, as was the case in 1993, toward the cost of staff time for this event at the
1993 levels: ~

:_ Shot 1994 increased from
~ Rabies (canine & feline) $3.00 . $1.00
DHLP-P (canine) $10.00 $2.00
Pan RC-C-P (feline) $7.00 $2.00

Staff further recommends that the licensing fees be redUced'for the pet clinic. Prior to
January 1, 14 94, the cost of dog licenses were $3 for neutered/spayed, $5 for unneutered,
and the City ~tid not require cats to be licensed. Effective January 1, 1994, the license fees
are $5 for ne utered/spayed and $20 for unneutered for both cats and dogs. As shots are
discounted b{ .tween 50% - 80% for this day, staff recommends reducing the licensing fee,

8'7
