•
# el A
In regards to Menards, I (along with Brian) met with them several times.
They never officially submitted any plans so I am not sure what they took
away from the meetings. I would say we were interested in helping them
get thru the process, but Menards never seemed that motivated to make a
quick decision. The Diamonds site was pretty tight to fit all of what
they wanted on it (the huge store, the storage yard, stormwater, and
parking). There was also some access problems that they would need to
have worked out with MnDOT. One of the things I recall is that they
wanted the City to vacate the right -of -way for the future frontage road
along Hwy. 10 (they wanted it for parking). We said that we needed that
area for when Hwy. 10 was rebuilt. We had several meetings to discuss. I
don't recall them ever saying that our position was a deal killer. I don't
remember them saying that they were not coming before I left. I think it
was still a possiblity when I left in the fall of 2007. Also Gary Gruber
was asking for all types of special events permits at the time, so I am
not sure how serious the ownership was in selling it to Menards in the
first place.
Hope that helps. Brian could shed some light on it too.
