APPROVE

CASE #

CONTRACT WITH GREATER ANOKA COUNTY HUMANE
SOCIETY FOR ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES
By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer

Background:

The contract Mth the Greater Anoka County Humane Society (GACHS), for the provision of
animal control services, is currently set to expire on July 31, 1994.

Last year, Chief Auspos investigated the possibility of contracting this type of service through the
City of Anoka.~ Due to actions taken by the Anoka City Council, the plan was put on hold,
therefore the City of Ramsey contracted with GACHS for animal control services.

Chief Auspos has again spoken with the City of Anoka and while they plan to shortly resurrect the
plan, it will not Occur prior to our need for a new contract. While Chief Auspos still feels that this
avenue is worth iexploring, as it might be more cost effective for the City of Ramsey, we will need
to renew the current contract with GACHS for the 1994-1995 contract year.

The costs presented by GACHS for services are comparable to previous contracts and there have
been no compla~ints to note regarding their services. In the event the City of Anoka's project
proceeds and proves to be a better benefit for our community, there is an early termination clause in
the agreement with GACHS which the City could exercise.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommen~is the Finance Committee approve the contract for animal control services as
presented and forward to City Council for approval. "

Committee Action:

Forward recommendation to City Council for approval of the 1994-1995 Animal Control Services
contract with GACHS and authorize the City Administrator to sign the contract.

Reviewed by; :

City Administrator
Finance Officer ~
Police Chief

FC: 7/26/94
