RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> DRIVING POLICY <br /> <br />Scope: <br />This policy affects all members of the Ramsey Fire Department when involved in an>, <br />function of fire fighting services. This will include: <br /> · Incidents (fires, rescues, any emergency that is paged out through 2800) <br /> · Dr/lis/Training <br /> · Departmental Functions (daycare demonstrations, parades, picnics, <br /> fundraising, public functions, etc.) <br /> <br />Purpose: <br />The Ramsey Fire Deparn-nent recognizes the necessity of safe driving. The Department is <br />committed to provide training and continual support to assure that all members drive in a <br />safe manner. <br /> <br />Responsibilities: <br /> <br /> All Fire Fighters are responsible for adherence to this policy. <br /> Fire Chief; <br /> The Fire Chief is responsible for disciplinary action in the event that a Fire <br /> Fighter violates this policy. <br /> Assistant Fire Chief: <br /> The Assistant Fire Chief will assume the Fire Chiefs responsibilities in the <br /> Fire Chiefs absence. <br /> <br />Requirements: <br />if any member is observed and reported driving in an unsafe manner (in violation of traffic <br />laws or unsafe act) disciplinary action will take place in the following order: <br /> <br />First Occurrence: The Fire Fighter will receive a written warning. Along with <br />the written warning will be a review of the Driving Policy and driving expectations <br />of the Fire Depm-~nent. <br /> <br />Second Occurrence: The Fire Fighter will receive a second written warning. The <br />Fire Fighters will also be restricted to responding from the station only after the first <br />2 units have left for a period of 30 calendar days. The Driving Policy will be <br />reviewed along with the driving expectations of the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Third Occurrence: The Fire Fighter will receive a third written warning and be <br />suspended from all f'u'e fighting duties for a period of 45 calendar days. During this <br />period the Fire Fighter's turnout gear and pager will be surrendered to the Fire <br />Chief. <br /> <br />Fourth Occurrence: The Fire Fighter will be .terminated from the Ramsey Fire <br />Department. All City owned equipment will be returned to the Fire Chief within <br />five (5) calendar days. Refusal to return equipment will result in the terminated <br />person paying the new market value for any and all pieces of city owned <br />equipment. <br /> <br />Implemented May 25, 1994. <br /> <br /> <br />
