MEMORANDUM

DATE:

September 1, 1994

TO:

Mayor and Council

CC:

FROM:

Steven Jankowski, City Engineer
Merle Mevissen, Public Works Supervisor
Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator

14100 Jaspar Street N.W.

On August 31, 1994, we closed on the Minnesota Sawdust property [14100 Jaspar Street N.W.].
The purchase price was $310,000. Closing costs, not including legal, were $2,000. Legal is
estimated at about $500.

Public Works Supervisor Mevissen has been gaining written quotes on refurbishing the property.
The estimates, where available, are shown on the attachment with the corresponding budget
allocation. Mr. Mevissen will be proceeding with the door replacement and miscellaneous patching
in the .projected amount of $4,356. Due to the costs of the project phases, however, we are
relegated to receiving sealed bids for these projects. Given Council's budget authorization and the
season we are proceeding in that direction. We are hoping to proceed with the HVAC, electrical,
and roofing as well within the next few weeks. We are still waiting for new insulation bids. The
floor drain bids came in well over budget. Therefore, we are looking for ways to trim the $46,800
estimated cost prior to proceeding with the work. We haven't begun the landscapin~paving
portion, pending survey work for the site plan.

Mr. Mevissen has provided a layout for equipment storageS' Which is also attached. The block
building at 14100 Jaspar Sn'eet N.W. will fit ail of the heavy equipment. The existing T.H. #47
facility could house park and utility equipment and seasonal pieces.

RS/kaj
