CITY OF RAMSEY
TREE CONSERVATION
PROGRAM

The City of Ramsey is committed to conserving and protecting our community's existing
urban forest as well as sustaining the future of our forest through tree planting. Trees and
forests add va. lue to the quality of life in Ramsey. Beyond economic value, trees add
environmental, aesthetic, social, historic, and psychological value. A few of the benefits
that trees bring to community include: increased property values, air pollution abatement,
noise buffers and visual screening, improved wildlife habitat, soil erosion prevention, and
comfort and aesthetic pleasure. Just as cities have a street and sewer infrastructure, cities
also have a "green infrastructure." The mission of community forestry is to manage trees
and other vegetative components of the ecosystem.

The following is a brief guideline to the steps required for compliance with the Tree
Conservation Program:

1. File a Application for Tree Removal with the City of Ramsey.

2. With recommendations of City Staff, submit ti tree protection/reforestation plan
with your ~ading plain which includes:

* Existing and Proposed topography.
* Limits of land disturbance, clearing, grading, and trenching.
* Tree Protection zones.
* Specimen trees.
* An.',, diseased trees to be ren'toved.
* Protection tree fencing and its compositi0nl
* Tree protection signs.
* Applicable utility locations.
* Any trees to be transplanted.

3, Deposit Stage II Escrow money before ~ading begins.
4. Follow through with your protection plan before grading begins. Install
snow fencing or orange plastic fencing with metal tee posts every 8 feet at the driptine to
protect trees from root damage. Designate areas outside of the tree protection zones for
excess fill. construction materials, parking, septic and utility lines.
5. Provide copies of your tree protection plan for all builders, contractors, and
homeowners.
6. Reforestation. Replacement trees must be planted for any trees located within
the tree protection zones which have been injured or damaged. If conditions do not allow
for replacement trees to be planted, then $200 per tree must be escrowed with the City
before any building permits tire issued.
