Gr upResponse Keypad Technology

Building an envliOnment that facilitates a supportive climale for achieving consensus requires frequent and open
communicalion, t~rorn marriagelo mergers, we know that communication Is key Io achieving important goals and
maintaining qualiF/rela§onships.~ Yet in our rapidly changing workplaces, few of us are finding
depth and quality ~f interaction th'at is necessary. '
GroupRespons, ~eypad Tech ~ology is one tool [hat is being used by small and large groups to facilitale a variety
of activities Ihat require clear an, straightfon~ard communications. Over the past ten years of designing and
facililating meeting, s, workshops md assessments, I have found this technology 1o be an Invaluable tool [or
supporting the very human proc ,.~s of group communication and consensus bulJding.

The system c~nsists of a la'top computer and
specialized s~are, an LOb panel placed on an
overhead projector, mdMdual keypads, and a radio
frequency trartsmitter.

Using GroupRpspcnse keypads, participants express their
opinions abouja variety of ~lUeSlions that appear on a large
public screen, h~esponses ~re tabulated into graphical summeries and instantly displayed. A facilitator then
leads the orou~ in an in-de'th discussion to help clarify the group's opinions. Multiple rounds of polling may be
conducted. ( ---

Responses ar collected Janonymously
During the disc ~sslcn perio;.d, individuals may choose to reveal their votes, but by using an anonymous me[hod
initially, the res ~onses are likely to reflect more candid, accurate opinions.

A picture is wot th a thousand words. Participants Instantly see Ihe
levels of agreement and di{agreement, thus stimulating discussions
that are focuse{I on resolving the issues at hand. A wide variety
of display optiof~s are availible.

Prlorltizatio. n ~rocess is iast. and comprehensive
From bralnston ~ing to stra!egic planning, groups that fail Io'prio, ritlze produce scattered results. Using the
computer-assL~ [ed method of "forced choice, paired comparlson,~ groups can quickly and efficiently perform
this vltsl, but ot~,erwise tim~,-consumlng task.

StrategiciPlannlng
Mergers ~nd Acquisi
Surveys Jind Assess,

on Planning
3ents

ETT-LEET ·

,~ Con/iici Resolution · 'Training
.
