CONSIDERA~I'ION
ADDITI(bNAL

Background:

CASE #

OF BUDGET AMENDMENT FOR THE PURCHASE OF SIX
MINI-RECORDERS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
By: Jessie L. Hart, Finance Officer

Recently, the Mignesota Supreme Court decreed that all statements taken from in-custody persons
must be recorded and the recording retained.

The Police Chief:has been working at acquiring recorders for each officer in the past and this court
decision gives in )etus to that effort. While there were three mini-recorders purchased from the
1994 budget, the: still remain six officers who do no have mini-recorders.

The cost per unl; is $105.00, which includes tax. A total dollar amount of $630.00 would be
needed to purch~ se the additional six mini-recorders. There is currently sufficient monies in the
uniforms and tur ~-out gear account to cover the cost of these recorders. A budget amendment of
$630.00 would I~e made from account #42261 into account #45560 to cover the cost of these
recorders. E

With the future in~plementation of new capitalization policies, it is anticipated that this cost will be a
pan of the cost oflthe unifom~s and budgeted accordingly.

Staff Recomm{ndation:

Staff recommends Committee approval of the purchase of six mini-recorders at a cost not-to-
exceed $630.00 ti~r0ugh the adoption of the attached resolution.

Committee Action: '"

Motion to recomn~end City Council adopt the Resolution Author/zing a Budget Amendment for the
Purchase of Six N.d~ ditional Mini-Recorders for the Police Department

Reviewed By:!

City Administrator
Finance Officer
Police Chief

FC: 10/25/94i
