September 10, 2011 !Volume 5 1 No. 17 Zoning Bulletin <br />MICHIGAN <br />A Wayne County judge recently upheld a Livonia city zoning ordi- <br />nance that forbids violating any federal law —including drug laws that <br />criminalize possession of marijuana. The American Civil Liberties Union <br />had reportedly argued that the ordinance amounted to a ban on state <br />sanctioned medical -marijuana use. <br />Source: Detroit Free Press; www.freeb.com <br />SOUTH DAKOTA <br />The South Dakota Supreme Court was expected to hear arguments <br />in late August on a Sioux Falls zoning ordinance. The ordinance, which <br />would make much of the city off-limits to new video lottery casinos, was <br />struck down by a circuit judge last year. The judge ruled that the South <br />Dakota Constitution and state laws allowed only the state to regulate <br />video lottery.
