frequency of such inspections is variable from community to community and depends
largely upon the communities' track record with it's wells. The City of Anoka, which has
wells in similar formations, inspects it's pumps on a seven-year cycle. I would therefore
recommend that prior to the peak demand period the City have Well No. 1 hold inspected
and repaired if necessary. An estimated cost for this work would be in the neighborhood
of $5,000. Thc recently approved water utility budget provided $7,000 for this purpose.

Recommendations:

It is Staffs recommendation that the following actions be initiated: 1) Solicit quotations for
the removal inspection and necessary repairs of Well No. 1; 2) Initiate dialog with the City
of Anoka to prepare an agreement for the purchase of water through an interconnect to meet
the needs of the Ramsey water utilities peak demand period; and 3) Authorize the
preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of an interconnect with the City
of Anoka.

Committee Action
iotion to recommend that Council direct Staff to solicit quotes for the removal inspection
d necessary repairs of Well No. 1, initiate dialog with the City of Anoka to prepare an
greement for the purchase of water through an interconnect to meet the needs of the
amsey water utilities peak demand period, and to authorize the preparation of plans and
pecifications for the construction of an interconnect with the City of Anoka.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer
City Adminisu-ator

R&B: 04/t2/94
