-5- <br /> <br />Area A: Beginning on the east side of the corridor, Area A extends <br />across a web,and and then encompasses a fiat terrace on the western <br />side of a ~eninsula. This slightly rolling terrace is currently <br />covered with old <br /> g~ow~n hardwoods and hea%~ underbrush. Because of <br />its proximity %o the marsh area, cu!turai potential was though5 to <br />be high Motor bike %rails throughout the area expose the subsoi~ <br />50 a depth of ~ ~c 20cm and where checked for cultural material. <br />in addition, 7 shovel 5es[s where du~. No cultural material was <br /> <br />Area B: Beginning at the western edge of Area A, this low area <br />slopes east no west into a marshy area. The area may formerly have <br />been a pasture. Currently in is covered by old growth hardwoods <br />and dense underbrusk~ Because of the~__e~u~a_~ ~ ~ ~ terrain and <br />abundance of we5 areas, cuitura! ponennia! was deemed low. The <br />entire area was walked in search of mounds or old foundations. I5 <br />was iound %o be sterite. <br /> <br />Area C: Bordering on a wetland to the east, this area rises <br />towards the wes% and ends at an agricultural field. The eastern <br />side is iow and has many drregular knolls. The remaining slope is <br />covered with dense underbrush and old growth hardwoods. Old <br />trails/roads criss-cross ~he area and ex?osed some of %he subsoil· <br />The entire area was walked at i0 me,er intervals. Nothing was <br />found. <br /> <br />A~ea D: AfEer exiting the wooded area, the corridor continues <br />through a hay field 5o a row of pine trees. The rolling terrain cf <br />%he hay field slopes ~owards 5he southwest. ~fDout cne-~h_rd of <br />surface was exposed and 6-7 dozen gophe~...mounds were checked. No <br />cultural material was found. <br /> <br />~ea E: Passing the row of pine trees, the corridor continues <br />west/southwest though another hay field to another row of cites. <br />This relatively fta~ field was do,ned with 5-6 dozen rodent mounds <br />and had 30 5o 40 percent of the surface ex~osed. The entire area <br />was w~!ked a% !0 meter in%ervais; nothing was found. <br /> <br />Area P: Continuing through and beyond ~he second row of pines, the <br />corridor crosses a grassy field ~nd then skirls the southern edge <br />cf Sunfish Lake untii in reaches }moka County Road 57. The new R/W <br />follows a gravel road though most of this area. Potential impact <br />areas north and south of road are either 50 sloped or disturbed to <br />have archaeological potentia!. <br /> <br />Area G: After crossing Anoka County~Road 57, the corridor crosses <br />~ sm=~! wet ±ate aha ~hen proceeds up a sleep slope on the west <br />side cf the wet mane. There are no flat areas near the wet land <br />only signs of hea~ disturbance. From Co. Rd. 57 50 !ndus~_--y <br />Avenue D~~ the new corridor crosses disturbed areas. The top soil <br />Lhrough ou~ 5his area has been removed, possibly for the !and ~ <br />to the north. Subsoil exposure was excellent and the entire <br />co~_~c_ was walked an !0 meter inte_~-vais Nothing was found. <br /> <br /> <br />
