Sign Area means~that area within the marginal lines of the surface which bears thc advertisement, <br />or in the case of ~essages, figures or symbols attached directly to any part of a building, that area <br />which is includeddn the smallest geometric shape which can be made to circurn.~n'ibe the message, <br />figure or symbol!displayed thereon. The stipulated maximum sign area for a free standing or <br />ground sign refeO to a single facing. <br /> <br />Street Frontage refers to the proximity of a parcel of land to one (1) or more streets. An interior <br />lot has one (1) str{et frontage and a corner lot has two (2) such frontages. <br /> <br />Temporary Signimeans a sign which is erected or displayed for a limited period of time and not <br />affixed to a Unifo~h~n Building Code 0JBC) approved structure. <br /> <br />Wall Sign mean~ any sign which is affixed to a wall of any building. This definition includes <br />individual letter signs and signs on mansards. <br /> <br />Window Sign m~ans a sign installed inside a window, or any sign placed within a building for <br />the purpose of being visible from the public fight-of-way. This does not include merchandise on <br />display. <br /> <br />Zoning Admini~rator is the person charged with the administration and enforcement of this <br />section. : <br /> <br />9.12.03 G~neral Provisions <br /> <br /> Subdivision 1. Address sign. One (1) address sign shall be required per <br />main building in ~1 districts in accordance with Section 8.02 of the Ramsey City Code. <br /> Subd. 2. Bench sign. Bench signs shall be permitted only at bus stops. <br /> <br /> Su~bd. 3. Ground Sign. A ground sign shall not project higher than twenty <br />five (25) feet as measured from base of sign or grade of the nearest adjacent roadway, whichever is <br />lower. An3, groun~t sign within fifty (50) feet of any intersection of street fight-of-way lines and/or <br />driveway entrances shall have a minimum vertical clearance of twelve (12) feet above the <br />centerline of the pavement unless it can be shown that it can comply with Subd. 5.b. 1 and 2 <br />herein. <br /> <br /> Subd. 4. Canopies or Marquees. Canopies and marquees shall be <br />considered to be ~ integral part of the structure to which they are an accessory. Signs may be <br />attached to a canopy or marquee, but such structures shall not be considered as part of the wall area <br />and thus shall not Warrant additional sign area. <br /> <br /> Sul3d. 5. Location. <br /> <br />No sign other than governmental signs shall be erected or temporarily <br />placed within any street or public right-of-way or upon any public <br />easement. <br /> <br />A permit for a sign to be located within fifty (50) feet of any street or <br />highway regulatory or warning sign, or any traffic sign or signal, or of any <br />crossroad or crosswalk, will not be issued unless: <br /> <br />The sign will not interfere with the ability of drivers and pedestrians <br />to see any street or highway sign, or any traffic sign or signal, or <br />any crossroad or crosswalk; and <br /> <br />Page 4 of 18 <br /> <br /> <br />
