MINNESOTA MRT MARKETING TOOLBOX <br />The Mississippi River Trail Bikeway Setting <br />HERE 1475 FT <br />ABOVE <br />THE OCEAN <br />THE MIGHTY <br />MISSISSIppI <br />BEGINS <br />TO FLOW <br />ON ITS <br />WINDING WAY <br />2552 MILES <br />TO THE <br />GULF OF <br />MEMO <br />—he monument at Lake Itasca <br />marks the beginning of the <br />Mississippi River in the Mississippi <br />Headwaters Destination Area. <br />Photo provided by Explore <br />Minnesota Tourism <br />In the Mississippi Metro <br />Destination Area, there is an MRT <br />route on both sides of the river. <br />Photo provided by Explore <br />Minnesota Tourism <br />SUMMARY VISION <br />distinct regional identity and will help travelers anticipate their likely <br />experience. <br />Each destination area is: <br />Oriented to the river <br />Geographically defined and anchored by a city at each end <br />Locally supported <br />Able to incorporate a practical marketing strategy related to <br />the specific area <br />The six destination areas are: <br />Mississippi Headwaters - from Itasca State Park to Bemidji <br />Northwoods Mississippi - from Bemidji to Grand Rapids <br />Mississippi Crossings - from Grand Rapids to Little Falls <br />Scenic Mississippi - from Little Falls to Elk River <br />Metro Mississippi - from Elk River to Hastings <br />Mississippi Bluffs - from Hastings to the Iowa border <br />In addition to the six destination areas, the MRT includes an <br />alternative, off road trail link in northern Minnesota that serves as a <br />seventh area with a unique character: <br />Paul Bunyan/Heartland State Trail Alternative MRT Route - <br />from Cass Lake to Brainerd <br />Stock destination area brochures, including one of each destination <br />area, the Paul Bunyan/Heartland Trail Alternative Route, and the <br />State of Minnesota, are illustrated in this section to support and <br />inform future marketing efforts.
