MINNESOTA MRT MARKETING TOOLBOX <br />MRT Route — Quick Facts <br />It is the variety of experiences at <br />the local, regional and state level <br />that define the MRT <br />At each level, marketers should <br />strive to create a distinct identity, <br />but also understand and reinforce <br />the larger MRT brand <br />SUMMARY VISION SETTING <br />,1N T'O <br />Tope' <br />NATIONAL BIKEWAY <br />The Mississippi River Trail Bikeway begins at the <br />Headwaters at Lake Itasca in Minnesota and ends at the <br />Gulf of Mexico Delta in Louisiana. <br />The MRT travels through ten states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, <br />Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, <br />Mississippi, Louisiana. <br />President Clinton designated the MRT as one of 16 National <br />Millennium Trails in 2000. <br />STATE BIKEWAY <br />The MRT is 817 miles in Minnesota. <br />The MRT is primarily an on -road bikeway following the <br />Mississippi River: <br />— 629 miles (77%) of the Minnesota MRT are on state, county, <br />township or city roads <br />-• 188 miles (23%) are on off road paths and trails <br />The Minnesota MRT passes through nearly 70 cities, <br />2 reservations and tribal lands, 21 counties and 88 <br />townships. <br />The Minnesota MRT connects with 3 state trails. <br />The Minnesota MRT connects with 10 regional trails. <br />The MRT connects to 8 state parks. <br />The MRT connects to 1 national park (Mississippi National <br />River and Recreation Area). <br />REGIONAL BIKEWAY <br />There are six destination areas in Minnesota: <br />Mississippi Headwaters (Itasca State Park to Bemidji) <br />Mississippi Northwoods (Bemidji to Grand Rapids) <br />Mississippi Crossroads (Grand Rapids to Little Falls) <br />Scenic Mississippi (Little Falls to Elk River) <br />Metro Mississippi (Elk River to Hastings) <br />Mississippi Bluffs (Hastings to the Iowa border) <br />A seventh area is the Paul Bunyan/Heartland State Trail <br />Alternative Route (Cass Lake to Brainerd). <br />MARKETING IPRODUC11 AUDIENCE STRATEGY PART NF_.RS SUPPORT <br />Minnesota Mississippi River Trail Bikeway <br />
