The Planning Commission has requested that the Park and Recreation Commission confirm
whether or not a trail link from Hunter's Hill Park to Sunwood Drive is desireal~le. Since
preliminary plat approval of Chestnut Hill in 1990 and revised preliminary plat approval in 1993,
the 1994-1999 Capital Improvements Plan was drafted. With respect to Park Improvements, that
plan states the following: "The City of Ramsey has been divided into 17 districts which constitute
neighborhoods. Each neighborhood district is intended to receive the full plethora of park services
within, or readily accessible to, the district. It is intended that this can be achieved by either
development of one or more fully comprehensive parks within each district or development of
sporadic comprehensive park facilities with development of trail systems leading to and between
each of these park facilities."

Excerpts from the 1991 Comprehensive Parks and Open Space Plan state the following: "A
component of the City's trail system should be developed to provide neighborhood access to
developed parks while minimizing the number of major road crossings and providing a trail system
separate from roadways" and "...development of the trail system emphasizes linking
neighborhoods to developed and developable parks through off road trails".

Recommendation:

City Staff recommends requiting a trail link from Hunter's Hill Park to Sunwood Drive.
Commission Action:

Will be based on your discussion.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
City Eng'ineer

P&R: 7/14/94
