Each field sample was taken using a 10 BAF (Basal Area Factor)
prism. The plots were placed randomly within the designated types.
The center of the plots were placed without including buildings
within the plot. Data recorded for each tree was species, DBH,
height or number of usable sawlogs (8 inches or larger on the small
end and 8 feet and longer) when applicable, and condition of the
tree based on condition class for Minnesota Shade Trees, see Table
IV.

METHODS

The purpose of this report is to provide the statistical data
regarding the tree population of the City of Ramsey. This is
necessary to identify specific tree disease problems and to
eliminate their potential impact. The use of aerial photography
was initially used to delineate cover types followed up with ground
checks. Stratified random sampling method was applied to the area.
The plots inventoried with the 10 BAF prism were translated into
stems per acre. This number was then used to estimate the total
stems of each condition class within each cover type. It was
assumed that the cover type areas are evenly distributed.
Residential openings within the various forest types were not
delineated out of the existing types-thus areas and numbers do not
reflect this modification.

Regeneration of each cover type was also recorded.
thirty sites were inventoried.

Sixteen of the

Kunde Co., Inc. - Consulting Foresters 3
