CASE

PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR SNOWMOBILE USE
By: Police Chief Mike Auspos

Background:

In order to use the snowmobile, the use of which has been donated by John Noard at
Anoka-Rams~y Sport Center, I have had to purchase a few items. Because of the weather
on this date arid a need to get the machine out, I talked with Finance Officer Hart and made
a basic purchase on this date, I-6-94. I have used line item 101-42349-2211,
Miscellaneous Operating Supplies and request that the Committee approve this expenditure,
after the fact,[With the consideration that as the year progresses, if this line item ends up
short that the 6xpend/ture area be reimbursed.

I have purchased a helmet which will, I believe, fit any of the officers who have signed up
for snowmobi!e patrol. It may be necessary, as the year progresses, to acquire another one
to allow a better fitting with a variety of officers. I also purchased two (2) Balaclava style
face masks. One has been given to Jim Way and the other will go to the next officer who
works the ma&hine if he doesn't have one of his own (I will be using mine for now). The
reason for individual ownership of these masks is that they tend to collect certain body
fluids around the mouth opening and cross-wearing is like sharing underwear.

Depending on~ the willingness and desire to use one's own equipment, I may also have to
buy a couple Pairs of good mitts or gloves this season.

Committee Action:

Motion to recgrnmend City Council approve the purchases made by Police Chief Auspos
charged to MiScellaneous Operating Supplies and to reimburse that expend/rare area should
such line item borne up short later on in the year.

#/

Reviewed by:

Police Ch/cf
City Adminisn'ator
Finance Officer

FC: 01/18/94
/jmt

.Copies also distributed to:
