CASE # <br /> <br />REPORT FROM GREEN TREE COMMITTEE <br />By: Bruce Bacon, Environmental Specialist <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />City Council ~uthorized $1,000 seed money for Arbor Events 1993. Three hundred dollars <br />of it was spe~ for trees and the Wolf Center Program at Ramsey Elementary Schoot; $320 <br />for Animal A~:l~ ventures; and $40 for reprinting pruning handouts for the Expo. The total <br />cash outlay w'as $660 of the authorized $1,000. <br /> <br />The City of Riamsey received 400 hours volunteer assistance from the Ramsey Green Tree <br />Committee i~ coordinating the 1993 Environmental Expo. Also, the Anoka County Tree <br />Board (ACTS) lent their 501c3 (non-profit) fiscal agent status so that fund raising could <br />occur at the ~xpo. The Ramsey Seniors donated bake sale items. ACTB expenditures for <br />the Expo wer~ $708, including $225 for Peace-Maker Drum Groups, Essay Awards ($75), <br />printing ($141.32), signs ($135) and miscellaneous ($131.98). The bake sale, silent <br />donated aucti~.n and t-shirt (40) sales generated $720 income. This was divided 50 percent <br />($360) to theiRamsey Green Tree Committee, 40 percent ($288) to Anoka County Tree <br />Board (Co-sponsor) and 10 percent ($72) to the Bums Tree Board (Co-sponsor). <br /> <br />1994 Plan: The Green Tree Committee has joined the Elm Institute for $50.00. The <br />Institute grows disease resistant American Elms. The Green Tree Committee would like to <br />use the remaining $310 for matching seed money for an Arbor Month demonstration <br />planting andiseeking matching donations from the Ramsey Lions Club and Ramsey <br />businesses to ~pply for a matching grant from the Twin Cities Tree Trust (TCTT). (TCTT <br />has a matehigg grant program for community tree board applications for tree planting <br />partnerships ~etween community groups, businesses and municipalities.) <br /> <br />1994 Arbor Month Planting Partnership: The Tree Boar&wants to focus their Arbor Month <br />efforts on tre~planting this year. The last two years the Arbor Expo has been their focus. <br />This ~ring th~ Green Tree Committee will participate with a booth at the tree sale and Expo <br />and, ~ mid-l~/!ay, seek partnership funding from businesses and TCTT with remaining <br />seed money ahd volunteer hours organizing and planting at a high visibility site with few <br />trees and in n6ed of a demonstration planting. <br /> <br />1994 Tree Sale: This leaves for direction, an Arbor event for Ramsey Elementary School, <br />a tree sale, ar/d clean-up day plans.
