MEMORANDUM

DATE:

TO:.

FROM:

RE:

F~bru~ry 17, 1994

persons Interested in Ramsey% Environmental Exposition and Tree Sale

M~k Boos, Parks/Utilities Coordinator ,~x/~ ~
Status of Expo and Tree Sale Planning

Thc following is [the consensus of the planning commince as of February 15, 1994. Participants
include Environr0cntal Expo Coordinator Paul Couture, Carol Khayettfi, Tom Miller and Ramsey
resident Bruce Bacon.

· The 20th Annual Tree Sale and 6th Annual EnvironmentakExpo should be lean, mean, and
green. T~at is, planning will focus (like a laser beam) on the basic elements that make the
event a success; such as

a) Q~ality trees and shrubs at reasonable prices
b) Fr~e seedlings
c) E~terminmg Environmental Education
d) Practical and proper landscape and related education

· The Expo:will probably not include dancers, drummers, or special activities at the school.

· Minimal e~ffort will be expended to garner participation by groups not directly related to the
Expo's ptffpose. Examples include the AEC booth, the Minnesota Archeolo~, Society,
etc. Similarly, the provision of food, bake sale or otherwise, is not viewed as critical.

· For ease of participation, clean up, and logistical reasons, the Expo will probably be
confined to the lower level and adjoining outdoor area.

An Arbor Day ceremony will not be planned unless City dignitaries or others desire one.

An inforg)al invitation to other city entities will be disseminated calling attention to
Ramqey's ~'wenfieth year in existence as a City and the 20th Annual Tree Sale. This seems
to be an Opportunity to share these anniversaries for enhancing community identity and
other coLt~nunity development initiatives. With or without partnerships or a special
celebratioh, T-sh/ns commemorating the above should be considered.

· Effort wi~ be expended in organizing a program for children. It is proposed that it be
highly ma~naged so that parents can leave their children in a well-supervised environment to
mingle, learn, and shop.
