March 25. 1~9994

SQUAD MILEAGE PROJECTIONS
FOR 1995 BUDGET

Using ~igures taken from squad logs. the following facts
arise ( a s~lection of seasonal months was used-
July/August~October/November/December of 1993 -
January/February/March of 1994):

Average miles per ~quad by unit
2920/mo.
1~2 - 2667 " Average: 2835
103 - 3069
1~4 - 2687

Using this average I applied it to each squad using the units'
mileage as ~f 3-24-94 which are as follows:

1~1 - 31588
1~2 - 24877
1~3 - 30395
1.4 - 27299

Projected m~leage therefore on 12-31-94 (2835 x 9):

1~1 - 57103
102 - 50392
1~3 - 55910
1~4 - 52814

Projected mileage on 6-30-95 (2835 x 6):

1~1 - 74113
1~2 - 67402
103 - 72920
1~4 - 69824

It can be seen that all four squads will exceed the 68888-65888
mile trade-in figure halfway through 1995, Further figuring
shows that ~01 and 103 should be replaced by March 31st, 1995
when they w~ll be approximately 65000 miles. Squads 102 and 104
would be at ;76515 and 78937 respectively if replaced on ~0-1-95,
In talking Qith a Ford fleet dealer however I was reminded that
the bidding ifor State purchasing does not come up with a price or
award until.nearly the end of December of the coming model year.
Therefore 1~96 models could not be ordered until January of 1996
with earliest likely delivery in April. This means that in any
one year there is only a window of order time from January
through April and, I was told, car manufacturer, s vary the line
shut-off times sometimes by one or two months.
Ideall/ all four units should be replaced at one time for
best resale 'value and/or use as city administrative vehicles.
