N 557,03 City of Ramsey 15153 Nowthe~ Blvd. Ramsey, ~ 5[5303 Attention: Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator Jessie Hart, Finance Co~umittee Chairperson Subject: Ramsey Women of Today Use of Community Room Dear Ryan and Jessie, I am writing you on behalf of a new community group being formed in the city of Ramsey. This group is the Women of Today, a community service and leadership training organization with over 150 chapters in Minnesota, and chapters ~n 15 states across the Nation. The Women of Today execute many community projects, offer personal enrichment courses, and do programs in conjuncti~in with several major foundations such as March of Dimes, Kidney Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, and more. This group is being extended by the-Anoka Women of Today, a very stable and lo~g-standing chapter. Just a few of the projects sponsored by the Anoka cha~ter each year are the annual Bunny Brunch and Egg Hunt at a local elementary school, funding [or an Anoka Youth Athletic Association Softball team/ activities for senior citizens, and are leaders in "Toys for Joy" with the~Anoka County Christmas Committee. Donations have been given to the local ihigh school senior party, the city library, books for the Learning Center, F~DD, DA3~E, and a scholarsb, ip for an outstanding high school student. We are active participants in the Anoka Chamber of Conumerce, andi we work together with the high school utilizing student volunteers, gsing the leadership skills gained in the Women of Today, our members have ~one on to be leaders in our organization and in the community as school board members, coordinators of major community projects, and as State Staff Officers for the Women of Today. Our hope is that in establishing ~ chapter in Ramsey, these members will reach out to make Ramsey a better place to live. Unfortunately we have encountered an obstacle in getting this chapter off the ground~- finding a permanent meeting location. We need a space for 10-20 people to meet once a month for a couple of hours. In searching throughout Ramsey, it seems that the community room at City Hall would be an ideal location. However, we cannot afford the fee that is charged. We try to keep ou~ dues to a minimum, so that anyone can afford to join. Ways and Means pro~ects will be done to cover such items as postage for the monthly newsletter, printing costs, and other expenses. We would be willing to put down a reasonable deposit, but the monthly fee currently required would make the use of this room totally unobtainable.
