CASE #

AUTHORIZATION TO EXPEND CONSTRUCTION DOLLARS FOR
14100 JASPAR STREET N.W.
(NEW PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY)
By: Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

On September I, 1994, Council received the attached memorandum regarding the new
Public Work~ facility at 14100 Jaspar Street N.W. Page two of the memo reiterates the
Council-apprbved remodeling budget and construction costs based upon quoted prices.
One can see that to-date, the budget allocations were fairly close with the exception of the
floor drain sy~;tem. The low door bid on the attachment has also been withdrawn. Thus,
we will be requoting this segment.

It has been in[ended that we provide a dual trench floor drainage system for catchment of
water, salts, a~nd other materials from the heavy equipment. The current budget overage
results from contract recommendations to remove the entire existing floor and starting over.
Due to the est!mated overage, this project segment is being rethought and delayed until the
other large p~oject costs (i.e. paving, landscaping) are known. Any Council input is
appreciated. ,

We have not'_yet received remodeling bids/leasing proposal from ACEDP for the steel
building on th[is site. They are looking, however, at using either the entire building or just
a portion as an option given concerns expressed by Councilmembers. The building is
currently divi~led into three areas and could be further divided. In any case, because of the
concern, Public Works Supervisor Mevissen has proposed the attached layout for use of
the 14100 block building and the existing T.H. #47 facilities. It had been intended that this
layout be rev!ewed by the Public Works Staff on September 7, 1994, but this has been
delayed to September 16, 1994, due to schedule conflicts. In any case, it is apparent that
all of our equipment can fit inside the various buildings. Whether layout efficiency can be
improved will be determined by the Public Works Staff. Any input on this is also
appreciated.

Committee Action:

Motion to reC~ommend Council authorize proceeding on remodeling of the property at
14100 Jaspar~ Street N.W. including doors, HVAC/air exchange, roofing, electrical,
landscaping 4nd paving in amounts not to exceed budget allocations pursuant to the
Minnesota bid: law.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

Copies distributed to:

City Engineer
Public Works Supervisor
Finance Officer
Parks/Utilities Supervisor

FC: 09/12194

/jmt
