CASE #

STORM WATER STUDY
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

The most currentistorm drainage plan was prepared nearly fifteen years ago. In 1994, the City
invested $30,000 go obtain two foot contour topographic mapping for the southeastern quadrant of
the City. This is!he area of the City that is rapidly urbanizing, and it is necessary that planning
anticipate the sto ,r~n water needs of this area. The topographic information provides a significant
tool for developin~g a sound drainage plan.

It is anticipated this study will establish major interceptor drains, identify allowable building
elevations adjacen~t to natural wetlands and ponding areas, develop a capital improvement program,
and suggest finan~ng mechanisms for implementing the CIP.

A budget allocatk~n of $20,000 has been requested for 1995 and the initial costs of this study will
be financed with d. ommunity Development Block Grant funds.

Recommendatidns:
At this time, it isinecessary to initiate this study by authorizing requests for proposals from
engineering firms. ~

Committee ActiOn:

Motion to recommend that City Council authorize Staff to initiate the Storm Water Study by
authorizing reques,B for proposals from engineering firms.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
City Engineer
Finance Officer

RB' 12/13/94

/ccr
