Mayor Gamec introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #03-02-048 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS MINNESOTA FOOD SHARE MONTH WHEREAS, hunger exists in communities even in the best of economies; and WHEREAS, nearly half of hungry Minnesotans are children twelve years old and younger; and WHEREAS, the fastest growing groups of hungry Mirmesotans are senior citizens and people who are working; and WHEREAS, the creeping effects of hunger in the life of an individual or family can range from poor health and slowed recovery from injury and illness to poor performance at school and at work; and WHEREAS, the impact of this on lives and communities can be devastating; and WHEREAS, food shelves in Minnesota distribute about thirty million pounds of donated and purchased food annually to ease the sting of hunger; and WHEREAS, due to slowed economy, visits have increased dramatically at every food shelf in the state this year, by an average of 10 percent; and WHEREAS, the Food Shelves in the City of Ramsey have also seen a significant increase in need; and WHEREAS, the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is responsible for acquiring about half the food distributed annually through food shelves; and WHEREAS, the success of the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign depends upon the participation of businesses, civic groups, schools, congregations and individuals in every community. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the Ramsey City Council do hereby proclaim the month of March 2003 to be 5~linnesota q~oo~fSliare ~Montli in Ramsey, and urge everyone in this community to donate food items and/or funding to Anoka County Brotherhood Council (ACBC) Emergency food shelf during March to ensure that all of our neighbors will have food enough to share fully in the life of the community.
