Mayor Gamec introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #03-02-048 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS MINNESOTA FOOD <br />SHARE MONTH <br /> <br />WHEREAS, hunger exists in communities even in the best of economies; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, nearly half of hungry Minnesotans are children twelve years old and <br />younger; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the fastest growing groups of hungry Mirmesotans are senior citizens and <br />people who are working; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the creeping effects of hunger in the life of an individual or family can <br />range from poor health and slowed recovery from injury and illness to poor performance at <br />school and at work; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the impact of this on lives and communities can be devastating; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, food shelves in Minnesota distribute about thirty million pounds of <br />donated and purchased food annually to ease the sting of hunger; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, due to slowed economy, visits have increased dramatically at every food <br />shelf in the state this year, by an average of 10 percent; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Food Shelves in the City of Ramsey have also seen a significant <br />increase in need; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign is responsible for acquiring <br />about half the food distributed annually through food shelves; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the success of the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign depends upon <br />the participation of businesses, civic groups, schools, congregations and individuals in every <br />community. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the Ramsey City Council do hereby proclaim the month of March 2003 to be <br /> <br />5~linnesota q~oo~fSliare ~Montli <br /> <br />in Ramsey, and urge everyone in this community to donate food items and/or funding <br />to Anoka County Brotherhood Council (ACBC) Emergency food shelf during March <br />to ensure that all of our neighbors will have food enough to share fully in the life of <br />the community. <br /> <br /> <br />
