Councilmember Kurak introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #03-03-072 RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ANOKA COUNTY BOARD TO CHANGE THE HOURS OF THE REDUCED SPEED LIMIT (35 MILES PER HOUR) TO 8:00 AM TO 6:00 PM, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY IN THE RAMSEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ZONE OF COUNTY ROAD 5 (NOWTHEN BLVD) WHEREAS, the safety of children in the school zone is not being fully accommodated during the limited hours currently posted for the 35 miles per hour speed limit; and WHEREAS, enforcement of the speed limit is difficult during the limited periods of time when the speed limit is lowered; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police of the Ramsey Police Department has recommended in writing to the Anoka County Board and Anoka County Highway Department that the speed limit in the school zone of the Ramsey Elementary School be reduced to 35 miles per hour for the period of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; and WHEREAS, this requested change to the posted hours will provide for reduced speed and more effective enforcement in the area of the school during the hours that activities are taking place at the school. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) The Ramsey City Council hereby requests that the hours of the reduced speed limit of 35 miles an hour in the area of the Ramsey Elementary School be changed to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Cook and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Gamec Councilmember Kurak Councilmember Cook Councilmember Elvig Councilmember Pearson Councilmember Strommen Councilmember Zimmerman and the following voted against the same: None and the following abstained: None Resolution #03-03-072 Page 1 of 2
