Councilmember Kurak introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION #03-03-072 <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ANOKA COUNTY BOARD TO CHANGE THE HOURS <br />OF THE REDUCED SPEED LIMIT (35 MILES PER HOUR) TO 8:00 AM TO 6:00 PM, <br />MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY IN THE RAMSEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ZONE OF <br />COUNTY ROAD 5 (NOWTHEN BLVD) <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the safety of children in the school zone is not being fully accommodated during <br />the limited hours currently posted for the 35 miles per hour speed limit; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, enforcement of the speed limit is difficult during the limited periods of time when <br />the speed limit is lowered; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Chief of Police of the Ramsey Police Department has recommended in <br />writing to the Anoka County Board and Anoka County Highway Department that the speed limit in the <br />school zone of the Ramsey Elementary School be reduced to 35 miles per hour for the period of 8:00 <br />a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this requested change to the posted hours will provide for reduced speed and <br />more effective enforcement in the area of the school during the hours that activities are taking place at <br />the school. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />The Ramsey City Council hereby requests that the hours of the reduced speed limit of 35 miles <br />an hour in the area of the Ramsey Elementary School be changed to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., <br />Monday through Friday. <br /> <br />The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Cook and <br />upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec <br />Councilmember Kurak <br />Councilmember Cook <br />Councilmember Elvig <br />Councilmember Pearson <br />Councilmember Strommen <br />Councilmember Zimmerman <br /> <br />and the following voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Resolution #03-03-072 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
