Gama Goat must be housed inside. An agreement stating these items must be signed by the
DNR and by the Ramsey City Mayor. The agreement is good for as long as we have the
Gama Goat. Following is a list of items needed: 1) Paint @$150.00; 2) Brush Protector
@ $500.00; 3) Training in Duluth for 2 Fire Fighters: Mileage, Meals and Lodging
@$122.00; and 4) Lights and Siren @$800.00. A Slide-in-unit is needed and we have a
chance of getting one free from Grand Rapids, however, we are 6th in line. Mr. Hoeke did
some checking and found a similar unit for $300.00 plus $150.00 for shipping. There will
also be a shipping charge of $100.00 to $150.00 on the Gama Goat. Mr. Hoeke informed
the Board that he checked with Ham Lake Fire Department and Andover Fire Department,
both of which have Gama Goats, and the calls to assist the DNR are very minimal. They
told Mr. Hoeke that they have used the equipment more for their own City than for the
DNR calls. Mr. Hoeke requested the Board make a motion to proceed with acquiring the
Gama Goat and attempt to have some of the items completed in 1990. Mr. Cich stated he
would like to go on record as saying he is concerned with the safety factor of the Gama
Goat as they are known to tip over very easily.

Motion by Mr. Bawden and seconded by Mr. Wilson to proceed with acquiring the Gama
Goat and to have some of the items completed in 1990

Motion carded. Voting Yes: Chairman Pearson, Board Members Bawden, Wilson, Cich,
and LaTour. Voting No: None. Absent: Board Member Spence and City Administrator,
David Hartley.

Case #2:

REQUEST PERMISSION TO PROCEED WITH ANOKA
COUNTY TO ACQUIRE A LOT IN THE AUTUMN HEIGHTS
2ND ADDITION FOR A FIRE STATION SITE

Mr. Hoeke gave a background regarding the subject property. The property is a lot in the
Autumn Heights 2nd Addition. The lot is being subdivided and part of the lot is to be used
for a radio receiver site. There would be a remaining 1.65 acres and it has been rumored
that the County would possibly donate it back to the City. Mr. Hoeke stated it would be an
excellent site for a future fh'e station. Mr. Cich suggested we wait as it is too premature to
think of this site for a future fire station when Public Works needs to be considered for
space also. Mr. Bawden offered the suggestion that the City pursue getting the land but
that it was premature to request it for a future fire station site. Mr. Wilson's opinion was
that it was an excellent location for the fire department especially since some areas of the
City take longer to get to from the present location. Chairman Pearson's statement was that
the City should look at, pick it up if the chance is there, but not necessarily for the fire
station as that is too premature in his opinion also. Mr. LaTour commented we need to
look into the future.

Motion by Mr. Bawden and seconded by Mr. Cich to table this case with recommendation
to the City Staff that they follow up on the land acquisition by the City.

Motion carded. Voting Yes: Chairman Pearson, Board Members Bawden and Cich.
Voting No: Board Members LaTour and Wilson. Absent: Board Member Spence and
City Administrator, David Hartley.

Fire Board/April 9, 1990
