196 (b) Minimum Width. When the parking use area is located within 50 feet of a <br />197 street right -of -way, the perimeter landscaping shall be located within a <br />198 planting strip at least six feet wide. In all other instances, <br />the strip shall be the minimum width necessary to assure <br />required landscaping is not damaged by vehicle or other <br />on -site activity. In no instance shall the strip be less than <br />three feet wide. <br />(c) Landscaping. Perimeter landscaping <br />requirements are based on the following: <br />• Wherever a B or E district is abutting a <br />non - residential district or use the landscape screening <br />shall consist of a minimum of three feet in height as <br />208 measured from the top of the adjacent parking area surface or; <br />209 • Wherever a B or E district is abutting a residential district or use the <br />210 landscape screening shall consist of a minimum of 6 (six) feet in height <br />211 and 80% (eighty percent) opaque. <br />212 (13) Pedestrian circulation: All parking lots in Business, Employment/Office Park, <br />213 Multiple Family and non - residential uses in residential zoning districts shall be <br />214 subject to the following standards to provide a safe pedestrian environment: <br />215 (a) Parking areas shall include a direct and continuous pedestrian network <br />216 within and adjacent to parking lots to connect building entrances, parking <br />217 spaces, public sidewalks, transit stops, and other pedestrian destinations. <br />218 <br />219 (b) At least one pedestrian route shall be provided between the main building <br />220 entrance and the public sidewalk that is uninterrupted by surface parking <br />221 and driveways. Pedestrian routes may include the following: <br />222 <br />223 • Raised sidewalk <br />224 • Colored pavement identifying a walkway <br />225 • Other designed approved during the site plan review process. <br />226 <br />227 (c) In larger parking lots or where parking lots serve more than one building <br />228 or destination, designated pedestrian pathways for safe travel through the <br />229 parking lot shall be provided. <br />230 <br />231 (d) All pedestrian routes within a parking lot shall include a clear division <br />232 from vehicular areas, with a change in grade, soft landscaping, or a change <br />233 in surface materials. <br />234 <br />235 (e) Where pedestrian routes cross street access driveways and other major <br />236 drive aisles, crossings shall be clearly marked and sight distance for both <br />237 pedestrian and vehicles shall be unobstructed. <br />238 <br />11 <br />
