Council Update
Deputy City Clerk Resigns. Congratulations to Deputy City Clerk Amy Dietl, who has
accepted a position with the City of Arden Hills as Deputy City Clerk. Amy's resignation is
effective June 1. We wish Amy the very best in her new endeavor.
City of Excellence Award Application. Staff has submitted an application for the 2012 League
of Minnesota Cities (LMC) City of Excellence Award. The COR Transit Village is the proposal,
which includes: parking ramp extension, The Residence at the COR, Ramsey Rail Station, VA
Clinic, Falls Cafe, community sign on Highway 10 and The Draw. Award winners will be
announced in mid-June. Attached to the Weekly Update is the 2012 City of Excellence Award
Application.
City of Ramsey Receives Recycling Award. 2011 marked the eighth consecutive year that the
City of Ramsey was recognized by the Anoka County Board of Commissioners for exceeding its
annual recycling goal. Anoka County Commissioner Matt Look presented Associate
Planner/Environmental Coordinator Chris Anderson with the recycling award on May 16 at a
recognition ceremony. Ramsey residents recycled 2,496.92 tons of material in 2011, plus an
additional 12.7 tons of problem materials, through both the curbside program and the spring and
fall recycling events. This is the equivalent of 214.59 pounds (excluding problem materials)
recycled per person in Ramsey! Curbside recycling is provided by contract with Ace Solid
Waste, Inc. for all single family and townhome residences. Two apartment complexes are also
serviced separately by Allied Waste Services and Walters Recycling. Our 2011 goal for
recycling was 2,036.30 tons and, thanks to the efforts of Ramsey residents, was easily surpassed.
TH47 Detour. Trunk Highway 47 (Ferry Street) will be closed STARTING AT 10 AM
MONDAY MAY 21st UNTIL 5 AM FRIDAY MAY 25th at the railroad crossing — just south of
Alter Recycling. This will allow for the construction of a center median, additional curbing, and
signage to allow for this crossing to be established as a Quiet Zone. A Quiet Zone will relinquish
the train engineer's compulsion to blow a whistle when crossing this intersection. Traffic will be
detoured to 7th Avenue. This is the same detour as was used in August 2009 when Mn/DOT
performed some ditch drainage enhancements. The 4th Avenue railroad crossing next to the
Anoka Rail Station will also be altered to allow for the establishment of a Quiet Zone. Fourth
Avenue will NOT be closed during construction. If you have any questions, contact Greg Lee,
Public Services Director, City of Anoka, 763-576-2781. Attached to the Weekly Update is the
TH 47 Detour Map.
New Format/Process for Weekly Update. Mayor Ramsey offered some suggestions for the
process and formatting of the Weekly Update. The Update would be completed through the
AgendaQuick software and submitted to the City's website the same way as the Agendas. This
process will allow staff to enter their own department activities, updates for the Council, and
correlating pictures or other attachments. Upon implementing this process, there will no longer
be the file size limitation on attachments that we currently have to adhere to. We don't anticipate
training will be necessary as this process will function the same as case writing.
