PART II - CODE OF ORDINANCES <br />Chapter 10 - ANIMALS <br />ARTICLE III. - DOGS <br />DIVISION 1. - GENERALLY <br />section 10- relative to the dog sought to be licensed, the application shall require proof of public <br />liability insurance in the minimum amount of $300,000.00. Upon submission of the application and a <br />certificate evidencing compliance with the terms and provisions of section 10-59, relating to vaccination <br />for rabies, and upon payment of a fee as established by ordinance, the city administrator or his <br />designee shall issue a license. Said license will be concurrent with a valid rabies vaccination for up to <br />three (3) years. shall expire two y ars from the date of the most recent rabies vaccination. <br />(Code 1978, § 5.09.03, subd. 3; Ord. No. 88-02) <br />Sec. 10-58. - Tags. <br />The license shall be in the form of an identification tag and shall be affixed by the owner to a collar to <br />be worn by the dog. In case a tag is lost or destroyed, a duplicate will be issued by the city <br />administrator upon presentation of a receipt showing payment of the license fee for the current period <br />and a payment as established by ordinance. Dog tags shall not be transferable from one dog to another <br />and no refunds shall be made on any dog license fee because of death of the dog or the owners <br />leaving the city prior to expiration of the license period. <br />(Code 1978, § 5.09.03, subd. 4; Ord. No. 88-02) <br />Sec. 10-59. - Rabies vaccination. <br />(a) Every owner or keeper of a dog shall cause the same to be vaccinated by a licensed veterinary <br />with anti -rabies vaccine at least once in every 2/1 month period every three (3) years and prior to <br />the time such dog shall reach the age of six months. <br />(b) No dog need be vaccinated when a licensed veterinarian has examined the animal and certified <br />that, at such time, vaccination would endanger its health because of its age, infirmity, debility, <br />illness, or other medical consideration; and such exception certificate is presented to the Animal <br />Control Officer within five days of such examination. The animal shall be vaccinated against <br />rabies as soon as its health and age permit. Unvaccinated animals must be confined to the <br />owner's property or a veterinary facility. <br />(Code 1978, § 5.09.03, subd. 5; Ord. No. 88-02) <br />Sec. 10-60. - Animal at large. <br />Every owner or keeper of a dog shall cause the same to be under the control of and in custody of a <br />person of sufficient age to adequately control the dog at all times, while the dog is off the premises of <br />the owner. The terms "control" and "custody" mean on a leash of not more than six feet in length <br />under the voice control of its owner. It shall be lawful to have a dog in an automobile without a leash, <br />but it must be on a leash or under the voice control of its owner if taken out of the vehicle. Violation of <br />this section shall be a petty misdemeanor. <br />(Code 1978, § 5.09.03, subd. 6; Ord. No. 88-02) <br />Sec. 10-61. - Report of dog bites. <br />Any person knowing of a human being bitten by a dog shall immediately notify the animal control officer <br />or the police department and said dog shall then be confined and kept under observation for a period of <br />4-4 ten (10) days before being removed from owner's property or disposed of. ,if necessary. <br />Ramsey, Minnesota, Code of Ordinances <br />Page 4of11 <br />
